Are the variables gender and party independent among members of the current U.S. Senate? To answer this question, you'll use Google Sheets or Excel to create graphs. You'll make a bar charts and reach conclusions about the data in that chart.

Alternately, you may be curious about the variables "religion" and "party", or some other variables.

The Data:

The data set you're working with is based on theU.S. Senators currently in office. The data aren't organized so you'll have to make a data table with them. Although, there are websites, like theCenter for American Women and Politics, that do much of the summarizing .

To do:

The goal is to answer the question "Are the variables gender and party independent among members of the current U.S. Senate?" and accomplish this by following the steps below.

1. make a contingency table with the data.Use the variable "party" for the columns and "gender" for the rows.Include a row for totals and a column for totals.Side note: You may use two rows, "male" and "female". If it's known (now? in the future?) that there is a non-binary gender for a Senator, more rows may be added for completeness.
