Arielle Hoomin-Person works for the national agency NASADA as a performance engineer. Her manager's manager is approached by NASADA STEM Engagement Deputy Associate Administrator for Strategy and Integration with the request for her department to create outreach materials for a K-12 Engineering Open House. Nobody else in the department thinks they can write about vehicle systems to a K-12 audience and have bowed out of helping, so she has been tasked with preparing it all herself. This week, she is preparing two illustrations with labels and a table to denote different components, their purpose, and how these components function for one of the most common types of aerospace vehicles the commercial satellite. Fill out remaining columns in the tables below with the purpose of the components (what is the component meant to accomplish during the mission?), how it does that (how it functions, what does it require to work), and which major subsystem the component belongs to. Choose a subsystem from the word bank of suggested subsystems. Avoid jargon and explain things in as clear of terms as possible, but don't over-simplify to the point of neglecting key considerations. Try to strike the appropriate balance in your explanations. Include at least 1 bullet point entry per "Purpose" and "How" cell entry in the table below. Limit your responses to 3 bullet points per cell. For any information you are citing from a resource, list the resource in the "Links" list below the tables, and include a citation reference in your "Purpose" and "How" cell entry, referencing the number on the list with square brackets like this at the end of a bullet point: [#]. If referencing a book, include the title and author, if referencing a person you know, write their name and relationship to you in the "Links" list instead of a link. After, create one original images with labels for the common exterior components of a commercial satellite. If you reference existing vehicles for your drawings, state which vehicles and cite the source where you obtained the image. Hand-drawing is preferred, but computer generated is fine if you compose it yourself in CAD or digital drawing, and not through AI. LIST THE LINKS FOR REFERENCES YOU USED IN PROBLEM 1. 1. Link 2. Link 3. Word Bank of Suggested Subsystems for the commercial satellite spacecraft: Control, Sensing, Power, Payload/Mission, Structural, Communication, & Thermal Control.
