EI gained attention during the 1990's when audacious claims were made regarding the ability of EI to predict better professional and personal life. Many questions were posed by both researchers and laypersons like: What does the existence of El imply in everyday life? In what ways does El influence emotional wellness, relationships, day to day choices, educational and work efficiency? The aim of this article is to answer these questions by reviewing the literature available on the implications of EI and describing how it affects the life of people; personally, socially, academically, and in the workplace by discussing why the concept has been used in academic and organizational settings and why it is important in day to day life. Just like the case with all constructs (i.e. personality or intelligence), a few schools of thought exist which intend to most precisely depict and measure the idea of Emotional Intelligence.
