As a result of recent blockades in Ottawa, Windsor, and Coutts, the federal government has been under significant pressure to protect communities from excess noise, harassment, and interference. The federal government has drafted new legislation that grants law enforcement the authority to arrest anyone who creates sustained, excessive noise or harasses, intimidates, or interferes with people being able to go to work or enjoy the use of their communities. Because of the seriousness of the problem and the need for deterrence, anyone arrested under this legislation will be put in jail indefinitely and denied the ability to contact a lawyer without having their detention reviewed or justified before a judge or other judicial authority.
Once passed by Parliament and proclaimed into law, the new legislation will be enforceable.
