The candidate informs you of the following: "I assume you may be conducting a criminal history check on me as part of the hiring process. I want you to know that this investigation will highlight a couple of past problems. Two years ago, my girlfriend and I had a fight and she stated she would be away for a weekend at a workplace conference and I would have no way of contacting her while she was away. I was able to access her workplace emails and trace her whereabouts only to find she was not at a work-related conference, she was with a male co-worker on their own. I do not like being lied to. To retaliate, she reported me to her employer who pressed charges against me for illegally accessing the secured email system.
