As an experienced inpatient and outpatient coder with over 15 years of experience, I hold the RHIT credential and have served as an AHIMA ICD-10 trainer. I have contributed to multiple coding projects with TXHIMA, the state association, and my career goal is to progress up the coding ladder. I have been working with the recruiting office at Rio Grande Medical Center for the past year to find a suitable position that will enhance my skills and align with my goal. Despite several job openings suggested by the recruiter, none have met my expectations. In August, I received notification about an open position as a coding auditor and, confident that this is the opportunity I have been waiting for, I expressed my interest to the recruiter and a phone interview was arranged. However, during the interview with the HIM manager, she mistakenly believed that I had prior experience as an auditor since January. This incorrect assumption needs to be corrected.

1. Articulate the appropriate response you should provide to the interviewer's statement and justify your response by referencing the AHIMA Code of Ethics.
