As biostatisticians we have computed that smoking kills. Unfortunately, however, some students find it to be an expression of liberation. Chain smokers typically consume 12 cigarettes per day, with a std. dev. of 1 cigarette. A sample of 20 chain smokers is taken from the student population and the average total number of cigarettes consumed is 202. Is this an accurate survey or are the students misreporting?
