As discussed in the syllabus and in class, this is a 4 to 7 page (double spaced, 12 point, times new roman) literature review of a microeconomic topic of your own choice containing at least 5 sources. An example of a much longer literature review is found in the Files section under Sample Literature Review. A literature review is a paper written in your own words that expresses the thoughts of several authors who you cite on a specific topic. Your opinions are generally only found in the introduction and the conclusions with the exception of minor commenting about the ideas of other individuals who you are citing. One of the best sources to get articles to cite is Google Scholar, which will allow you to read academic articles and provide a mechanism to cite these articles in APA or Chicago style (do not use MLA style). Google scholar is found at scholar.google.com and you should restrict yourself to sources that are found in academic journals, such as those that are listed as having full-text at the library. There will be links in Google Scholar to each of these articles and you will have to log into the library website to see these texts. If you quote directly from outside sources, you must use quotation marks and provide page number references. I can set up a quick individualized Zoom session with you if you need to see exactly how to do it. I use the university's rubric for Written Communication to grade your paper. Here is a copy of that rubric as adopted for this course. RUBRIC (WRITTEN PAPERS): (Graded in three parts, equally weighted) CONTENT (Graded A-F) A: Thesis statement is present and relevant. All points are well covered and well supported. Topic is well understood. No major or minor issues with facts or relevancy. B: Thesis statement is present and relevant. Paper shows some inconsistent or unsupported arguments. Minor points may be missing. No major issues with facts or relevancy. Topic is competently understood. C: Thesis statement is present and relevant. Paper often is inconsistent, or arguments are unsupported. Paper is inaccurate or irrelevant at times. Minor points may be missing. There is some understanding of the topic. D: Thesis statement is flawed, misleading, or not present at all. Paper is not well developed. Points are not well covered or supported. Major points may be missing. Major issues with facts or relevancy. Not enough external references. Topic is not understood well. F: Not on topic. No references to materials in course. Paper is purely opinion and does not draw on external materials. Topic is not understood. ORGANIZATION (Graded A-F) A: Paper has an introduction, body, and conclusion with the introduction and conclusion being effective and informative. Paper is progressively and logically developed. Ideas are expressed clearly with proper transitions between ideas. B: Paper has an introduction, body, and conclusion with the introduction and conclusion being adequate. Paper is progressively developed. Ideas are expressed adequately but transitions between ideas are not always effective. C: Paper has an introduction, body, and conclusion. Paper is progressively, but somewhat incoherently, developed. Ideas are unclear or vague at times but transitions between ideas are often ineffective. D: Paper lacks an introduction or conclusion. Paper is incoherent. Ideas are unclear or vague. Transitions are lacking. F: Paper is written in a stream of consciousness form with no sense of purpose. MECHANICS (Graded A-F) A: Correct grammar and spelling. Variety of proper sentence structures utilized. Paragraph formation is correct. Variety of accurate and effective vocabulary is used. References are clearly identified and properly made. B: Minor grammar or spelling errors. Minor inconsistent sentence structure. Minor paragraph issues. Vocabulary is accurate and effective but not necessarily varied. References are clearly identified. C: Noticeable grammar or spelling errors. Several inconsistencies in sentence structure. Several paragraph issues. Vocabulary is accurate but not necessarily effective or varied. References are inaccurate. D: Major grammar or spelling errors. Sentences are fragmented, incomplete, or incorrectly formed. Vocabulary is limited or inaccurate. References are unclear. F: Very difficult to read due to mechanical, grammatical, or spelling errors.
