As Jesus continued in the story, he made it clear that the father honored the son's request. In fact, the father divided the inheritance between both of his sons. The immediate actions of the younger son demonstrated his reason for the request. Verse 13 reads, \"Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.\" As soon as the son got his inheritance, he moved as far away from his father and began to use his new found fortune to live the life he desired to live. It is all the clearer that the motivation of the younger son's legal request for inheritance was singular, self-centeredness. Again, this self-centeredness not only motivated the request but also motivated the lifestyle he lived. He created distance from his father and then began to utilize all his resources, as quickly as possible, to satisfy his own desires, with his father as far away from his heart and mind as possible.
