As part of the Baltimore Eye Survey, various methods for screening for

glaucoma were examined in terms of their sensitivity and specificity. Various cutoffs for intraocular pressure (IOP), as measured by tonometry, were considered as a screening test. The "gold standard" diagnosis of glaucoma was based on a "definitive examination," which included visual field tests, optic disc and nerve fiber layer findings, etc. (IOP was not considered when making the gold standard diagnosis.) At a cutoff of IOP > 20, the following "truth table" was obtained for males:
