As seen in the Table 1, beliefs regarding animacy had an impact on individuals' observational learning. Participants in the human belief group demonstrated faster reaction times (M = 1.11, SD = 0.18), than those allocated to the non-human belief group showed slower reaction times (M = 1.33, SD = 0.18), t(98) = -.60769, p = < 0.00. With an overall average reaction time of; M = 1.22, SD = 0.21 ranging from 71 to 1.74
The hypothesis was examined using an independent sample t-test; all relevant assumptions for these analyses were checked and met.
THE main task involved performing a series of key-press sequences in a specified order (see slides from Tutorial 1 on the iLearn page for details of the task). Before the main task, participants were randomly assigned to one of two training groups (human vs non-human). Training in the human and non-human groups involved watching a hand in a black leather glove perform a series of key-press sequences. Before watching these videos, the human group were told that the hand was a human hand, whereas the non-human group were told that it was a programmed (i.e., robotic) wooden hand. In the tutorial class, students had a chance to practice the task by physically performing the sequences before and after watching other people perform the sequences. The data were not collected during the practical, however. The data were collected previously and are provided in summarised format at the end of this document - one datapoint per participant. The data can also be downloaded in an excel sheet via iLearn. There were 100 participants in total who completed the experiment (50 participants per training group). You are to write up the study as if you were the researcher who conducted it, according to APA Guidelines for research reports.
