As society continues to evolve in the field of Information and Communications Technology, more internet-based tools become available to support the efforts made by criminal justice agencies and the strategic planning process. The textbook Strategic planning for public and nonprofit organizations: A guide to strengthening and sustaining organizational achievement lists several internet-based tools implemented to aid in the strategic planning process, "The use of e-mail, file attachments, strategic planning websites, Web-based searches, file storage, and collaborative word processing are now part of most strategic planning efforts. Beyond that, more electronic tools are frequently being invented and used in tailored ways that can support strategic planning processes" (Bryson, J. M., 2018, pg.515). I believe the internet-based tools that would work best with a criminal justice organization, in aiding the strategic plan process, are those that enlist open participation, open collaboration, and ubiquitous engagement. There are industry-specific databases that cater to the criminal justice field such as the National Crime Information Center, Criminal Justice Information Services, Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program, and the National Sex Offender Registry.
