1. As the readings for the week show (and as you already know), we are often wrong. This occurs in our lives and in the scientific world as well. Why is it good to be wrong? You could think of a personal example or experience, a general one, or a specific one from a science perspective.
2. Speaking from experience, psychological study often provides us with more questions than answers as well as results that are not what we expect (aka "wrong"). However, these results are often more provocative and important than what we wanted or expected. Has anyone had this experience or done research where this was the case? If not, is anyone able to name important psychological, medical, or other discoveries that went wrong, yet brought us amazing results? One example I readily recall is Pavlov...he was studying digestion in dogs and accidentally stumbled upon classical conditioning. I can think of lots more, and I am sure you know some too! J Google it if you cannot think of any. You will be STUNNED!
3. One thing I will share with all of you is that when I first started teaching, one of my biggest fears was that someone would ask a question that I could not answer properly. However, I learned right away that there will come times that students will ask fantastic, thought-provoking questions, and I might not know. So, I try to find out! Are there times that any of you are afraid of being wrong? Is it intimidating for anyone on the other side, as when the teacher calls on you? Or even if you volunteer an answer, and it is not perfectly accurate? In both my roles as teacher and student, I always appreciate interaction! As a teacher, I never care if it is accurate or not. The effort and engagement impact the class. Frequently, some of the wrong answers are very important, because they are the obvious answers that confuse everyone, and I WANT someone to give the exact wrong answer that was given!
