As the United State grew into a more industrial developed and larger/broader nation, we see an increasing influence of urban society on our cultural beliefs and practices. Today we would almost undoubtedly say we are a nation defined by what emerges within and develops through our cities. Despite the rise of modern cities during that time, can we say the same for America in the nineteenth century? Was American identity and culture more influenced by cities or not? Use three distinct examples and explain and defend your arguments.
