As we discussed, conflicts like the Syrian Civil War and European migrant crisis can be linked to more complicated processes like climate change and the internal strength of a regime. This means these issues are not easily engaged with traditional IR theory, even though the increasingly globalized world we live in means that their effects are shaping (specifically undermining) the nature of the international order. Compare the way in which two theories we have covered this semester would address (or be unable to address) the Syrian Civil war and the migrant crisis. How can these theories help us address such problems, and what must be done to better equip us for studying complex problems in the contemporary world?
