As we have seen a lot of food prices are going up due to inflation and shortage issues caused by covid 19. Just as we are starting to recover from the covid 19 supply issues the avian influenza has hit the US chicken population. Causing the worst outbreak of bird flu we have seen yet in US history. The flu has initiated the slaughter of more than 60 million egg laying chickens. This has caused an egg shortage in the entire nation. We are now seeing the effects of demand-pull inflation. Because of the quantity demand for eggs and the extreme shortage, the price for eggs has now increased by 49%. In order for the price of eggs to go back to normal we need market equilibrium to be restored. Which means we need more egg laying chickens that can increase the quantity of eggs which in turn will lower the price of eggs.
