Scenario: Imagine that you volunteer with a local non-profit organization and volunteered to take on a leadership role by planning an event. You have been working with a team that varies in size from four and twelve people for three months. The event is just 3 days away when you find out the keynote speaker - that you booked two months ago! - will no longer be able to attend. Because you have paid the speaker upfront, you do not have the budget to hire a new one - you plan on asking to be repaid but with this short notice, cannot guarantee the money will be returned in time for you to pay someone else. You certainly have a big problem to solve.
