Task overview

In this assessment, students will be provided a business scenario and dataset. Students will be required to use the dataset and apply business analytics techniques to it so as to be able generate a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between variables in response to the identified business problem. They will be required to present these insights in a clear and effective manner. This assessment is worth 60% of the subject.

Requirements

You work for Insight Analytics Pty Ltd, a consulting company specialising in firm and capital market analysis for investors and financial advisors, but also companies who are interested in e.g. industry specific drivers of financial performance.

You have been provided with cross-sectional information about a sample of 1,000 Australian companies and are required to analyse these companies to identify drivers of revenue, costs and profits. This dataset Download datasetincludes financial information (revenues and expenses), but also non-financial data (e.g. customer satisfaction scores) and demographic information (e.g. geographic information), all referring to the previous financial year (or end of it). The file also includes a data dictionary explaining the meaning of the variables. Your analysis of the data should also be guided by an extract from an Analysis Guide Download extract from an Analysis Guideprepared by Insight Analytics Chief Data Scientist. The extract refers to typical questions to be asked when analysing high-level company data. Note that you do not necessarily have to address all these questions/recommendations it is more a create awareness checklist.

Tools: As mentioned previously in the subject, MS Excel is the standard tool for analysis in this subject; however, you are totally free to use other tools for data preparation and analysis, either in addition to Excel, or instead of Excel.

Using the data provided (and any other information you feel could be relevant) provide a 6 minute video report which includes an overview of descriptive and predictive analytics of the drivers of financial performance indicators, as well as a proposal to Insight Analytics team of consultants guiding their advisory services for their clients, including 2 actionable insights into how companies could increase their profitability.

Assignment format

Your report is to be recorded as a video file and uploaded to Canvas. The maximum length of the video is 6 minutes (this isnt long so its important to focus and stay concise) and is to be uploaded to Canvas. Within the 6 minutes, you are free to choose a format that works best for you. The maximum media file size that can be uploaded is 500 MB.

Note from user: what kind of data should be included? can you explain step-wise? not technical. so that people can understand it. and the sheet has Revenue, Other Expenses, Marketing Expenses, R&D expenses, Customer satisfaction, industry Foreign Op, chair ferm and region!!
