Assessment 4(Written assignments)(5%)
Students are required to submit a written assignment report. The assignment covers the theoretical work done in Chapter 27. Weight: 5%
Each team should consist of 2 students and the task of each student should be clearly defined.
Use the student number of the Team Leader to determine the values of the resistors and (:R3}.
All the different circuits and calculations must be included in the final report. Both members must submit the written assignment report file using Blackboard by 19 May 2024(23:59). The link will be available on Blackboard. No late submissions will be accepted.
The Report Writing Guide is provided to help you to set up your final assignment report. The Report Writing Guide has been uploaded on Blackboard under the "Written Assignment" folder.
IMPORTANT NOTE! Plagiarism will not be tolerated, and results in failure for the assignment and frequently failing grade for the course.
Task to do:
Your group is performing electrical experiments in your physics laboratory. Your supply of resistors in the stockroom has run low and you only have two different values of resistance: R1 and R2.
(i) Your experiments require a 45 resistor and a 35 resistor. Split your group into two halves. Group one will determine how to form a 45 resistor from your supply, while group two will do the same for a 35 resistor.
(ii) After working on the experiment for a while, you realize you now need a R3 resistor. Have your whole group work together to find at least three ways to combine the resistors in your stockroom to generate R3.
(iii) All calculations must be substantiated with detailed diagrams illustrating the connections.
(iv) This task not only challenges your understanding of resistor combinations but also encourages creative problem-solving and teamwork.
Example of how to determine the required values of resistors:
Use the student number (230591469) of your Team Leader to determine:
st and 7th numbers of your student number)
R1=24
R2=(last two numbers of your student number)
R2=69
If both numbers of your student number are a zero, then use the 6 th and the 7 th numbers of your student number.
R3=(last number of your student number)+100
R3=9+100=109
