Assignment 01: Your own thread.
C. Environmental issues and crimes: 2) Human-wildlife conflict. Part I.
Question 1): Understanding CITES.
The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) provides an international legal framework that intends to regulate what can and cannot be done as far as international trades of specific species.
Following SHEIKH & CORN (2016), we learn that the convention creates three (03) categories under which these species can fall, with different consequences for each category.
In a first (01) paragraph, give a very brief introduction (one short sentence) and merely mention each of these three (03) categories (only mention).
In a second (01) paragraph, briefly explain why a species would fall under the first category, and what legal protection such category has.
In a third (01) paragraph, briefly explain why a species would fall under the second category, and what legal protection such category has.
In a fourth (01) paragraph, briefly explain why a species would fall under the third category, and what legal protection such category has.
Guidelines:1) Overall length should be 240-360 words. 2) Organize the answer into four (04) paragraphs
Question 2): Illegal bio-traffic in the 21st Century.
In her powerful and useful article, LAVORGNA (2014) uses a particular criminology theory/approach to better understand the criminal opportunities that are present in the digital wildlife trafficking.
In a first (01) paragraph, mention which is the approach, and briefly explain it.
In a second (01) paragraph, choose to explain either one (01) advantage or one (01) limitation you think this approach may have for addressing illegal bio-trade with the use of Internet. Note that if you are the first to produce a thread, you can freely choose an advantage, or a limitation; if you are the second to produce a thread, you are obliged to choose the opposite of what the first chose; and all remaining are again free to choose.
Guidelines:1) Overall length should be 180-240 words. 2) Organize the answer into one (01) or two (02) paragraphs.
