Late Assignment: Reduced mark of 10% per day; if more than 3 days late, the grade is zero. It is often challenging to remove personal biases when making decisions. This individual assignment is related to problem-solving and decision-making and puts this challenge into practice. Students are encouraged to enlist fellow students, friends, family, roommates etc., to participate in the activities to help generate your results only (i.e. doing paired comparison or interviews). If unable to perform with others, an individual input will suffice. Students must complete their work individually using course materials. Instructions: 1. Create a professional PowerPoint presentation (5 - 8 pages) or MS Word document (3 - 5 pages) excluding the title page and reference page. Do not include the assignment instructions, and do not convert to a PDF. Students submitting as a PDF will be required to resubmit, and a 10% penalty applied. Analysis slides may have paragraphs. 2. The assignment must include: Analysis 1 Analysis 2 Summary/Conclusion 3. Read the assignment requirements for more details and refer to the rubric for grading information. 4. References for images and information should be cited using A..A@Conestoga. 5. Check and correct spelling, grammar, and formatting before the assignment is submitted. Assignment Requirements Perform the following: 1. Select from one of the categories below (i.e. Streaming Services) a. Select 5 examples or options that align with the categories (i.e. Hulu, HBO etc.). Categories Smart Phones: iPhone, Google, Samsung, etc. Virtual Meeting Applications: Zoom, Facetime, Skype, etc. Gaming Systems: Play Station, Wii, Xbox, PC etc. Cars, or Car Companies: Tesla, Toyota, Mitsubishi, etc. Music Streaming: Apple Music, Spotify, Sirius, etc. Vacation Destinations: Cancun, Fiji, Canary Islands, Banff, etc. Streaming Services: Disney Plus, Netflix, HBO Plus, Hulu, etc Recreation Sports: Volleyball, Soccer, Cricket, Softball, etc. Computers/electronics or Brands: iPad, Desktop, laptop, etc. or HP, Microsoft, Apple, etc. 2. The decision to be made: a. State the decision to be made (for example: which computer brand is best for college students in post graduate business program or which vacation should you take a family of four with two small children on for March break). This decision will apply for Analysis 1 and 2. 3. Analysis 1 (Paired Comparison): Using the category and options of your choice, create a Paired Comparison chart. Use images or words (or a combination) that makes sense for your selection. a. Conduct the comparison 3 times. Once on your own and twice with peers, friends, family, etc. b. Capture results in one Paired Comparison chart, including the rank based on each comparison. c. Take notes (needed for analysis). d. Reflect on the process and results. Share 2 - 3 observations or findings that were most interesting, expected, surprising etc. Share ideas on how to enhance the process in the future or any other insights you have on the process used for the analysis. 4. Analysis 2 (6 Thinking Hats): Using your paired comparison results, select the 1st and 2nd ranked options (there should not be a tie). a. Use the same decision (for example, which computer brand is best for students). b. Using the 6 Thinking Hats, conduct an individual analysis for each option. c. Capture your results, clearly summarize, and state your choice. d. Reflect on the process and results. Which of the 6 thinking hats was the most useful, which was the least useful? Share ideas on how to enhance the process in the future or any other insights you have on the process used for the analysis. 5. Summary/Conclusion: Clearly state your choice from the options reviewed in step 4. Using course material or other reputable sources to support your opinion, respond to these questions: a. Based on the work performed, in your opinion, which approaches were the most effective and why? b. Based on the work performed, identify one other approach (not Paired Comparison or 6 Thinking Hats) that would work well for these decisions. Include the reasons why it may work.
