Assignment 1 Effective UI Design
Introduction
The purpose of this assignment is to apply your knowledge of UI design principles to identify and describe instances of effective UI design practices. This will help to reinforce the importance of interface design principles and their role in interface usability. In this assignment, you will create a report for your analysis of a UI of your choice.
Grading
The value of this assignment is 25% of your final grade. The grading method for the assignment is based on the Grading Rubric in Brightspace for this assignment. Before you submit your assignment, be sure to review the Grading Rubric to ensure you are meeting the evaluation expectations for the assignment. The grading is based on you following the instructions below and satisfying the requirements as described.
Instructions
Create a report using the defaults in MS Word in terms of font size, line spacing, etc. The report will include the following:
Title Page
The title page includes the following information:
assignment title
course code
your name
your student ID
submission date
UI Screenshot Page
Find a UI (web or desktop) that exemplifies the UI design principles we have covered in the course. Take a good quality screenshot of the UI and include this in your report. The screenshot should fill 1 full page in the report. Note: you can change the individual page orientation to help accomplish this. Include a caption to show where the image came from, such as a URL if a web page.
Analysis Section Page(s)
Include approximately 1 page of written text for your analysis. You can include images/graphics in your analysis, but you are still expected to have 1 page of written text.
Your analysis will include a discussion of the following:
What is the most prominent call-to-action? What design techniques are used to draw focus to this element and describe its effectiveness?
What are effective uses of Contrast?
What are effective uses of Repetition?
What are effective uses of Alignment?
What are effective uses of Proximity?
Note: make direct reference to examples in the UI when talking about a design principle. Try to really explain why it is designed in this way, and the benefit it serves to the user (usability).
When you are finished your report, upload the document to the Brightspace -> Assessments -> Assignments -> Assignment 1 folder.
