Assignment #2 - Formal Letter to the CEO
The second graded assignment consists of the following: A ONE PAGE Formal Letter to the CEO requesting permission to proceed with a comprehensive departmental project which had its seeds in the departmental complaint you addressed last week.
After reviewing the template letter in the Readings & Assignments folder, meet with your team to discuss the bare bones of what will be your COMM 1034 capstone project, a full departmental report with team presentation. The project (e.g. a revised marketing campaign championing the ethnic diversity of our company) must be large enough to have up to 5-6 individual roles necessary for the preparation phases (e.g. Project Leader, Script Writer, Designer, Budget Officer, etc.). However you must also ensure that the overall scope of the project accounts for both the size of your department and the COMM 1034 semester timeline.
The project itself can be something you hypothetically implement after the final presentation and report (e.g. the shovels for a roof top patio will hit the ground in January), or it can be a work in progress (e.g. initial phases of a revised Marketing campaign). This will all depend on your specific projects. The key is getting your CEO on board with permission to proceed with your project.
Since these are early days, the focus of the letter should be both positive and persuasive, with only enough information about the project to pique the CEOs interest. You will begin filling in the gaps as you develop the project, which will continue with your upcoming Departmental Project Meetings.
Please include our company logo and adhere to our established formal business writing format. And dont forget to remember who your audience is (CEO) and be mindful to focus on what the project will mean in a positive way for Clawfoot Communications.
Grading Rubric (2.5 points for each part) - I will be looking for:
1. Grammar, spelling and writing mechanics 2. Appropriate formal Business language/tone 3. Format (1 page in Word with logo/correct font as discussed - team names at bottom) 4. Content (is your project realistic/well considered?)
