For this assignment, you will explain how you would deal with a case of negligence if you were the injured party.

The Scenario

You and your significant other had booked a week-long holiday on a quiet island in the Strait of Georgia. You had already paid for a waterfront cabin, rental bicycles, and a whale watching tour totaling $1000. You also paid to charter the water taxi to the island through Strait Water Taxi.

On the journey there, the water taxi hit a big wave causing an unsecured piece of luggage to knock you to the ground. This caused injuries severe enough that you had to spend the week in the hospital with your partner by your side. You have received no refunds from your missed holiday.

The water taxi company was not insured for negligence and is not taking responsibility. The owner of the water taxi says that you can sue the driver but that he does not owe you anything. He is no longer returning your emails.

Your assignment

Explain the steps that you will take to sue the water taxi company for negligence. In this report, make it clear exactly which injuries you will sue for. You will need to use the following terms in your report:

Be sure to explain the entire process from the time of injury until you receive a settlement. You can use your own name in the report or you can create a name for a fictional character who receives the injury.
