Assignment 4 - Crosstabulations Due: November 02, 2021 Be sure to check out the general guide for IS600 Assignments (front page of the Assignments section of the Bb page). Also, for this week examine the guide writing up statistics problems (not all of these will be relevant this first week). Review the assignment file background material and resources on descriptive statistics. Crosstabulations: Development and Refugee Hosting This assignment is about using crosstabulations to evaluate comparative data. It uses the "HDI and Refugees" dataset in the Datasets folder on Bb. Despite public perceptions about forced migrants in the Global North, the vast majority of refugees (over 80% according to UNHCR) are hosted in the Global South, often very close to their country of origin. The dataset for this assignment is a compilation of the Human Development Index (HDI) and UNHCR population numbers for various categories of forced migrants for 2018. Use the crosstabulation analysis to assess the relationship between development as indexed by the HDI and the number of: 1. Refugees in a host country 2. Asylum seekers in a host country 3. Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) In each case, you will need to set up a dichotomous variable (0, 1) to determine "a lot" and "not a lot" for each of the variables. Be sure to justify where you establish your cut-off value to be. Your goal is to use these statistics to answer the following questions: ? What is your a priori expectation about the relationship between development and refugee hosting? ? Do developing countries carry the burden of refugee and/or asylum-seeker hosting compared to developed countries? ? Can you statistically determine if your a priori expectations are correct? ? What is the relationship between IDPs and development? ? Do you think there are missing variables to better explain the relationship between IDPs and development? What might they be? Be sure to explain the limitations of your approach and analysis. As you work on the assignment, it is important to think about what data is there and what is missing, and what that means for your analysis. As always, a compelling narrative is an important part of your grade. Extra points for creative use of graphics in your analysis to help make your analysis clearer.

The crosstabulation analysis compares the different independent categorical data of development between Refugees in a host country, Asylum seekers in a host country, and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). It uses a set of dichotomous coding variables of as 1- 'a lot' and 0 lnot a lot ' for each of the independent variable set. The analysis is to determine the significant difference from the observed frequency and the expected frequencies. 1.our prior expectation before conducting the chi-test was that there is about a relationship between Human development Index and refugee hosting. This group's priori expectation was that the more developed the country, in terms of health, life expectancy, average years of schooling, and income were related to refugee hosting, meaning, they were better equipped to handle the overall absorption of refugees. Therefore, there would likely be more refugees in countries with greater development. For question 1 we used the Mean of 1218012695 ofthe refugees in host country and mean of [1713470899 ofthe HDI held constant to evaluate the whole column of refugees in host country and HDI respectively in the categorical data coding. as our logical test number as the constant variable in our Our Hypothesis testing as stated below and used the media as our H0 There is no difference between HDI and refugees under UNHCR mandate H1 There is a difference between HDI and refugees under UNHCR mandate Combined Observed and expected frequencies Refugee HDI X A O Search the Web or type a URL... ...
