Assignment #7 (Part 1)
Assume you are the manager of a document imaging department. You are trying to assess how many full-time employees (FTEs - full-time equivalents) you need to have staffed in order to meet the demand for the month. You know the acceptable productivity range for each of the four stages of imaging (prepping, scanning, indexing, and quality control). To determine the average anticipated productivity, you will use the median of each acceptable range to establish average hourly expectations. Answer the following questions and fill in the table to arrive at the answer to the last question of how many employees you will need. Round answers in the last two columns of the table to two decimal places to allow you to round to the correct tenth in the last question.
- If there are 250 pieces of paper in an inch (stacked), and the average chart thickness for March is 0.6 inches, how many pieces of paper (images) would each record contain? __________
- If there were 2,401 discharges in March, how many total images are there in all the records for March (i.e. Total Expected Images)? ____________
Function | Acceptable range | Expectations per worked hour (mid-range) | Total expected images (Discharges images/record) | Total expected images mid-range = work hours *Round to hundredths place* | Work hours 160 hrs per month = FTEs Needed *Round to hundredths place*
Prepping | 340-500 images
Scanning | 1,200-2,400 images
Indexing | 720-800 images
Quality control | 1,700-2,000 images |
- Based on the data and answers from questions 1 through 5, about how many total FTEs would be needed to keep the work flow current in the document imaging for March? Round to one decimal place. __________
