Career Search: This assignment is designed to help you choose and research a career. If you are just starting in college, preparing to begin a new career after college, or interested in finding out what career choices may be a good fit for you, this is your recommended assignment.
Job Search: This assignment is designed to help you make successful steps on your career path after you have made a career choice. If you already feel confident and passionate about your career choice, this assignment will give you tips for professional development and is your recommended assignment.
Criteria for written assignments:
- Type your full name, course name, and date in the upper left-hand corner of the page
- Type your subject in the center of the page. The subject should be the name of the assignment
- Start your writing at the left margin (do not center your entire paper)
- Use Calibri, Arial, or Times New Roman 12-point font
- Use double spacing
- Use correct spelling and grammar
- Use proper citations to give credit to other resources and ideas that are not your own
This assignment does NOT need to be in essay format. You may provide the information required by listing the answers to questions in the prompt but must adhere to the above criteria for written assignments. Review the rubric before you begin grading details.
Instructions for CAREER SEARCH Assignment:

Start by clicking on new user signup in the upper right corner of the screen. Fill in the required information and click on register. Choose the green box that is labeled explore careers and scroll down to the bottom of this box to view career tools; click learn more. You will see 4 different career tools to choose from appearing on your screen, choose Find a Career.
There are 4 assessments you may take to search for personalized career matches. It is required to take the first 2 assessments, interests, and values. There are 2 additional assessments you may take to further refine your search if desired, personality and workplace preferences, but are not required. After you complete each assessment, you may choose to take the next assessment or retake the assessment. Once you have completed your assessments, you may view your career matches. All matches are categorized by subject.
For the written assignment, you must answer the following 5 questions. This does not have to be in essay format. Write 3-4 sentences for each answer.
- From the Interests Assessment, there are 6 different dimensions listed. What are your 2 primary interests? What activities have you previously or do you currently participate in that align with this interest dimension? Are you pursuing or planning to pursue a career that aligns with this interest dimension?
- From the Values Assessment, there are 6 different values listed. What are your 2 primary values? What do people with these values seek from a job? In what ways do you hope to experience these values in your future career?
- From your career matches, choose a career that is a very strong match. What career did you choose? What is something you may do on the job if you pursue this career? Can you see yourself pursuing this career?
- From your career matches, choose a second career that is a very strong match. What career did you choose? What is something you may do on the job if you pursue this career? Can you see yourself pursuing this career?
- What would be the next steps if you decide to schedule an appointment with Career Development? If you were to have a meeting with someone in career development, what would be the most important topic for you to talk about?
