There are two steps to this applied activity. Please read the instructions carefully to ensure that all steps are followed and all requirements are met. You will be graded according to the grading scheme found at the bottom of this assignment.

You must create structured PowerPoint presentation to support the information you present to the class.Ensure that it is free from spelling and grammar errors and provide citations for all references and sources, including images. You must be present, ready to make your presentation when (and if) called upon and provide proper APA citations for your information to be eligible for grading.

Part 1: Interview a Business Owner or a Manager of a Business Function

  1. Choose a business that interests you. This could be a business that you'd like to work in, or an industry that you'd like to work in (for example, banking, marketing, accounting, etc.)
  2. Contact the business owner or manager of a business function within that organization using a digital tool (such as a professional LinkedIn message or a well-worded email).
  3. Conduct your interview directly or using virtual technology (Zoom, Skype, Google Meet, Facetime, etc.) and ask the following questions:
  • Please introduce yourself. Include your official title, highest level of study and some information about your professional work experience.
  • Tell us about your role in the organization including an overview of your day-to-day responsibilities.
  • If interviewing a business owner, ask: Why did you choose to become an entrepreneur and why did you enter this business?
  • If interviewing someone working in a business, ask: Have you ever considered becoming an entrepreneur? Why or why not?
  • How is your function interrelated with the other business functions in your organization?
  • What are the best parts about your job? What do you enjoy doing most?
  • What knowledge, skills or certifications are needed to do your job?
  • If someone wanted to succeed in your area of business, what are your three pieces of advice to them?
  • Ask any additional questions you may think of to gain more insight into this business, this person or this industry.

Part 2: Summarize and Present your Information

  1. Create a professional PowerPoint or similar presentation to communicate the information from your interview to your fellow students. Presentations must follow the criteria below:

  • No more than 10 PowerPoint slides, including an introduction and summary slide. Your presentation should contain enough information to make it easy for someone who has never heard of this business/business role to understand what the business is, what it does, who the person you interviewed is and what they do each day.
  • No longer than 7 minutes in length. Presentations will be stopped once 7 minutes has passed.
  • Presentation is clean, professional and easy to read/follow
  • Presentation is free from spelling/grammar errors
  • Prepare for questions from the audience/professor.
  • Upload your presentation prior to the beginning of your scheduled class
