Assignment Overview This exercise simulates the performance of a hospital Intensive-Care-Unit (ICU). The simulation has two parts (scenarios). In the first you will study how changes in arrival-rate (inter-arrival-time mean and STD) and service- time (mean and STD) affect patients' queuing time. In the second part, you will compare two systems, one where the resources (hospital beds) are separated into four specialized units and the other where the resources are pooled. The system applies the First-Come-First-Serve priority rule which is commonly used in most service operations (e.g., restaurants, call centers, airport security etc.). The levers available to you the manager are (1) improving service time (reducing its mean and STD) by, for example, adding doctors and nurses and (2) reducing inter-arrival-time mean (e.g., by admitting fewer patients) or its STD (e.g., by seeing patients by appointment only). Please run the simulation using the parameters below. You may run each scenario as many times as you wish. You are encouraged to explore other scenarios using other parameters on your own. Please run the following scenarios and take a screenshot of the graphs generated for each one: Scenario 1 (separate ICU) a. Mean Inter-Arrival Time = 4 Mean Length of Stay = 12 STD Inter-Arrival Time = 0 STD Length of Stay = 0 Run for 1 year b. Mean Inter-Arrival Time = 4 Mean Length of Stay = 12 STD Inter-Arrival Time = 1 STD Length of Stay = 3 Run for 1 year
