Assignment: This exercise is designed to give you some practical experience in how consumerssearch for, buy, and use products and services to fulfill wants and/or needs. Hopefully, you willfind this exercise to be not only a great learning experience, but a way to have some fun as well. This exercise should make you aware of the things that influence your own consumption ofgoods and services your purchasing behavior so that you can begin to understand whatinfluences others purchasing behavior. Do this for five (5) products or services. This project isworth 20% of your grade for undergraduate students and 10% of your grade for graduatestudents. I do expect you to give a great deal of thought and effort to this. Also, please ensurethat you check for grammar and spelling before turning it in. I understand that the PurchasingNotes are just notes, so I wont worry about grammar and spelling on that portion of theassignment, but the Analysis Paper should be pristine and well-written, and your grade willreflect your writing. I would strongly recommend that you use Grammarly and/or have someoneproofread it for you prior to submitting it. You do have the Writing Center available to you, although it will require you to get your work done in time to submit it for analysis and revision.Additionally, this exercise is a reflection of your consumption and purchasing behavior. Thereshould be absolutely no use of artificial intelligence used when writing this paper. For additionalinformation about Artificial Intelligence in writing for this class, please refer to the coursesyllabus.Part 1 Notes on PurchasingUse the Purchase Notes table format on the next pages to record your purchases. If you are usinga purchase you will make, record the information either when you make the purchase, or as soonas is practical after the purchase, so that the details will remain fresh in your mind. Regardless,be as thorough as you can. It will make writing the post-purchase analysis paper much easier. You may either type or hand-write your notes. You will turn these notes in with your paper.Part 2 Analysis PaperYour reflection paper will be an expansion of the notes that you took in Part One. For each of thefive (5) products or services that you took notes on, expand those notes into a written narrative. Iexpect you to use the concepts you learn in this course in your paper for example, This was ahedonic purchase because... Etc.Please use Microsoft Word, Times New Roman font, 12-point, double-spaced, 1-inch margins allaround. To give you a rough guideline of how long the paper should be, I would expect thatapproximately 1(1)/(2) double-spaced pages, per purchase, would be normal. That works out toUpdated: Fall 2023
approximately 375 words per product/service, or approximately 7(1)/(2) pages of content (notincluding the cover page). This will obviously vary... I would expect more writing on thepurchase of an automobile than I would on a package of chewing gum (I personally would havea hard time writing the expected number of words on a pack of gum). Be thorough andthoughtful. If you have any questions, please dont hesitate to ask. Refer to the rubric. Acopy of it may be found on the last page of this assignment, and as a separate documentunder the Consumption Journal Module Blackboard. If you have questions, ask them!Submit: Both your Purchase Notes pages and your Analysis paper are due at 11:59 p.m.,Monday, December 11,2023, for the 16-week course, and 11:59 p.m., Monday, December11,2023 for the 8 week course. These should be in Microsoft Office/Word. If you use ApplePages or another word processor, export to MS Word format before submitting. Again, proofreadto catch grammar and spelling errors, as you will be graded on your writing as well as on thecontent.DO NOT SUBMIT PDF DOCUMENTS. I usually must export those to Word to makereadable comments on them, and that is too time-consuming given the very short time availablebetween the time you submit them, and the time grades are due. Also, Blackboard frequently hasproblems with pdf documents oftentimes, I cant open them in Blackboard and must downloadthem, open them separately and grade them, and then upload them again into Blackboard. If yousave your document and submit it as a pdf, I will grade it, but will not be able to give youfeedback on it.Additional Notes on the AssignmentPlease note that all submissions will be checked for plagiarism and use of artificial intelligenceusing both SafeAssign in Blackboard and various AI checkers. See the syllabus for the sectionson academic honesty and artificial intelligence. Some items do show up as plagiarized if otherstudents use them (for example, if you follow the template Ive provided you) but be assured thatI check these to make sure they are appropriate and will not count things like using commontemplates against you.
