The investments produce an aggregate net annual income of $250,000. Joeli figures he has a tax problem. It's called Social Responsibility Tax (s.8(2)). Joeli has his lawyer Lisa create a company called Invest Co Pte Ltd ('Investco ). The company's articles name Joeli as the sole director. Joeli subscribes for fully paid up ordinary shares in Investco. The company issues shares for an aggregate price equal to the value of Joeli's investments. Joeli pays for the shares by transferring all of his investment assets to the company. Income derived by the company from its investments is generally retained. However when Joeli is in need of cash the company declares a dividend and makes a distribution of retained profit to its shareholder Joeli. Has Joeli successfully solved his tax problem?
