Assume for the purposes of this question that the surrogacy agreement has been terminated. As a result of their deep disappointment about the failed attempt to become parents, A and B's relationship suffers. They eventually make a joint decision to separate. They ask for your advice on how the assets in their relationship should be divided between them. A is a successful actor and musician, who had built up a valable portfolio of shares during the relationship. He also owns three seafront cottages in Cape Town which are rented out and generate considerable income. In addition, A and B live in a large house in Johannesburg, which is registered in both their names. Before he met A, B was a school teacher. However, he decided to give up his career in order to travel with A to A's regular music shows and acting stints throughout t'ountry. B manages A's schedule, takes care of the investments, the renting out of the beach cottages, and makes all the practical arrangements for their lives so that A can be free to devote himself to his art. Advise A and B on the legal rules which would govern the distribution of all property owned by them, given the fact that they are not married
