For example, if a requirement is proposed, but someone in the group suggests a reason why the requirement may need refining or not apply, record both the proposed requirement and the discussion about the concerns that have been identified.
- Return to the full class group to build a list of requirements as identified by each of the groups. Some of these requirements may conflict or contradict each other. These should be discussed as a class, particularly between the conflicting groups, to see if the requirements can be further refined so that both parties accept the solution, or if there is a mismatch in requirements that would need to be addressed later. Pay attention to the requirements gathered. Are these true requirements, focusing on what the system needs to do? Can you identify any gaps in the requirements where further explanation or detail is required? Discuss these gaps with the stakeholder groups who are most likely able to help provide this clarification.
- Return to the small stakeholder groups. In these groups, develop:
- a RASCI stakeholder prioritization matrix. (RASCI Responsible, Accountable, Support, Consult, Inform)
- a priority list for the requirements. Consider the business objectives as well as the outcomes of your stakeholder prioritization in developing this priority list. Some requirements may need to be omitted due to conflicts between requirements this is fine, but you need to document which requirements have been omitted and justify why this has occurred.
- As a full class, share the small stakeholder group stakeholder prioritization matrices and the priority lists for requirements. How similar are these? Discuss similarities and differences between the views of the small groups and try to understand the perspectives of these groups. Would you make any changes to your matrix or requirements priority list now? As a class, determine an agreed priority list for the requirements.
- Individually: Reflect on the communication that occurred throughout this activity. How difficult was it to share ideas within small groups? Within the class? Was the conversation dominated by a few people, or shared around the class? Did everyone have the opportunity to share their thoughts? Consider either: what worked well and should be replicated in other situations where group discussion is required; or: what could be improved to facilitate more open and collaborative communication.
