Assume you are the HR Director of a medium to large corporation or the owner of a small business. Draft a memo informing your employees on the topic you chose. The purpose of this memo is to keep them up to date on an issue that might affect them or the company. At a minimum, your memo should include:
- A description of the legal issue in a way that your audience could understand it
- Include an explanation of the current state of that issue/law
- A discussion on how your company will address that issue when/if the time comes.
Sexual Harassment Training "The end of 2017 marks an unprecedented recognition of sexual harassment in the workplace," said Cheryl Orr and Irene Rizzi, attorneys with Drinker Biddle in San Francisco, in an e-mail to SHRM Online. As a result, employers should take a look at their sexual harassment policies, complaint and investigation procedures, and training programs, attorneys said. "The impact from what's happening in Hollywood and in politics will trickle down, and we may see new harassment laws and more training mandates at the state level," said Matthew Deffebach, an attorney with Haynes and Boone in Houston. Currently, California and Connecticut require businesses with 50 or more employees to provide sexual harassment training to supervisors. Businesses with 15 or more employees in Maine must provide training to all workers at the start of their employment. INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: Your supervisor's name (or your professor) FROM: Your name DATE: RE: Very short statement of your assignment STATEMENT OF ASSIGNMENT In one paragraph, explain what you have been asked to provide or submit. This is nothing more than a summary of the task assigned to you. SUMMARY In one short paragraph summarize the outcome of your findings. DISCUSSION Depending on the complexity of your assignment, the discussion section might be one paragraph or multiple \"sections\". If you have a series of questions that need to be answered, it is best to create \"subheadings\". If, however, you have one question, then it is best to simply draft a single, flowing \"essay-style\" response. For example, it would look like this DISCUSSION (but obviously longer). Compare this to the DISCUSSION below, where multiple sections are required. DISCUSSION A. What are the deadlines for filing our motion? If you have, for example, three questions (or issues) to address, then creating headings is ideal. B. What the rules of procedure for obtaining a passport from Cuba for our client? Discuss...... C. How can we obtain private parking spaces in front of our building? Discuss.... In either example, you would end your memo after the DISCUSSION with a very simple conclusion. IN CLOSING In closing, please reach out to me if further discussion or analysis is needed. I can be reached at: phone number or email (provide both). Regards, Your Signature Your name 2
