At 6 p.m. this evening Constable Smith was patrolling Black Marsh Road, when he saw a man waving him down. As he stopped into B&B Snaks, Chantal Abbott and her boyfriend, Sandy Eastman approached him with a story about an older gentleman following a young boy. Ms. Abbott was particularly concerned for the safety of the young boy. Upon speaking with Cst. Smith, Ms. Abbott stated the following: Okay ah we were driving over Blackmarsh Road towards ah no sorry yeah over Blackmarsh Road towards Cashin Avenue. We were planning on going to B&B for something to eat and we noticed a police car come up around the corner and my boyfriend thought it was parking by the side of B&B and there's limited parking there so we pulled in on the parking lot across the street where the lighting place is and ah we notice that the police car turned and went so we pulled over by, parked right by the side of B&B, got out of the car and as we're walking up to the steps, just as we got to the door the door opened and ah a young guy 14 or15 years old ah was just coming out through the door. He met us like right in the door. We were just a couple of inches from him and he said ah he looked at us. He looked a little distressed and ah he said ah, "That fagot won't stop following me." So we just kind of stopped cause I have children and my boyfriend does as well, they're a little bit older but we were kind of concerned so we stopped and spoke to him and asked him what he was talking about and he said this guy, this older guy, had been following him since he left the Needs store on Hamilton Avenue. So we though well this man is a little older so the guy the young fellow should be pretty quick so we thought maybe if we stopped, slowed the guy down coming out the door, the young fellow could run off. Ah but for some reason the young fellow didn't go very fast but anyway, the older guy actually came out the door and ah we kind of stood blocking his way. Not obviously saying no you can't go anywhere but just trying to you know slow him down a little. And the young fellow went across the street towards the lighting place and the older guy actually held the door open for us and said, made a reference that he was gonna hold the door open for us. So he went down over the steps, followed the young fellow across the street. The young fellow changed direction to go up towards Cashin Avenue and when he did the man followed him in that direction. So at that point I was a little concerned for the young fellow so ah I said to my boyfriend, "Let's find out where he's going and drive him where ever he's going if he'll agree to it." So we called out to the young fellow. Ah my boyfriend actually I think used those exact words, "Hey young fella," called him back and asked him where he was going and we told him that we would drive him. He was going up to what he referred to as the Blocks, up by I assuming Cashin Avenue. We were going to drive him up. And with that the police car passed by again. So I can't remember for sure who waved the police car down, ah probably the young fella and my boyfriend. So he went over. The police car stopped on ah Blackmarsh Road just by the Anthony Insurance place but pointing down towards Campbell Avenue and the young fellow went over and he was talking to the police officer telling him what was happening so my boyfriend and I went over as well and just tried to tell the police officer, yes this young fella is upset and seems to be you know justifiably so. But when the older man saw the police car, he just kept walking really quickly towards Cashin Avenue. Ah so the young fella went back into B&B with us. The police officer went to talk to this older man. Ah the young fella was inside talking to the girl. He obviously knew the girl at the counter and he was talking to her. He was quite ah you know excited or you know emotional. So ah after the police officer assumed finished talking to the older man, he came and talked to the young fella pulled him, brought him out to the car and then came in and just took our names and addresses and contact information and I'm assuming drove the young fella to wherever he was going.
