At a hospital's pharmacy, a new manager has started and had determined that the capacity of the process does not match with the expectations of the patients, or hospital board of directors. She has received many patient complaints. The pharmacy needs to process an average of 152 patients within the 8 hour opening time of the clinic. The process requires two pharmacists to work together to issue the meds, and they cannot serve different patients simultaneously - they therefore function as 1 server. The manager has already made some improvements: the average time to serve a patient is 3 minutes. Now she needs your help to make sense of the numbers. Using waiting line modeling, what does this show the manager about the current operation? (3 points) 2. Refer to the previous information. After reviewing the analysis, the manager feels it would be desirable to hire a fulltime student-pharmacist to assist in the operation. She believes that if this student in their final year of school, therefore well-trained, assisted the 2 currently employed pharmacists, a second serving position could be opened. This would not reduce the average serving time, rather, it would increase it to 5.5 minutes due to extra safety checks- but the manager feels that may be a cost-effective solution to reduce waiting times. The hospital board and patients association will be happy to accept a 15 minute average waiting time. Will the proposed set up deliver a good enough solution? Can will your recommendation to the manager be? Make sure to explain! (5 points) 3. In this process, what options does the pharmacy manager have to improve the patients' experience of the time they spend at the hospital pharmacy? (2 points)
