At several locations on Chapman's campus 21 year old Annie placed reward posters which offered a reward of $1,000 to the person finding and returning Annie's cat. Thereafter, Jim found the cat which had on it a collar with Annie's phone number on the collar. Jim was unaware of the reward but Jim called Annie and arranged to return the cat. One hour after Jim returned the cat to Annie Herman told Jim of the reward. Jim then immediately asked Annie to pay him the reward.

On December 1, 2016 Claire entered into an oral contract with the Exciting Irvine Club ("Club") to deliver a speech at the Club's meeting on December 1, 2020 concerning the Club's planned trip to Tustin. But Claire never appeared at the Club on December 1, 2020 and so the Club sued Claire for breach of contract.

While standing in Beckman Hall Professor B was struck by several business law textbooks thrown by students standing at the second floor railing. The Professor was rendered unconscious, and someone called paramedics from the local fire department. The paramedics arrived and revived the Professor, and thereafter the paramedics billed the Professor $2,500, their usual charges for emergency medical care. However, the reasonable value of the paramedics' services was $1,000. After he received the bill from the paramedics the Professor refused to pay it, claiming he never agreed to pay anything.
