At this point, you have a narrowed topic as well as some good search phrases to use, and a working knowledge of how to do library and internet research. Now I want you to put this knowledge into practice by finding two of the five sources this informative speech requires. (remember, you cannot use overview sources such as Wikipedia for any of your five specific sources).
For your research, I'd like you to use a variety of source types such as journal articles, maybe government sources, or consumer sources, maybe news papers or magazines etc. This doesn't mean you can only use each source type once, or that you have to have only one of each, but I don't want you using all websites, for example. A student's sources might be something like: 3 web-pages, an academic journal article, a government website, and a news paper article interview of an expert.
TOPIC: ANY TOPICSSSS
- Post your Thesis - even if it is tentative still.
- Now, list at least 2 of your 5 required sources using CORRECT a p a format (one must be scholarly/academic or original research).
- For each of these first two sources I want you to list out 3 short paragraphs:
Your first paragraph should explain what the sources is and give a summary of it, including the topic and its main points.
You will then write one second paragraph that evaluates the source's credibility (use the Tips On Evaluating Sources page to help you understand how to evaluate sources. THIS IS GOING TO BE IMPORTANT!). Give 3 reasons to defend the quality of each of your sources. Use the information from your textbook and/or the above-mentioned websites to defend your sources! If you cannot defend your source, why are you using it?
Finally, you will write one paragraph explaining what information from the source you think you will use in your speech, and how the information in the sources is addressing your topic and purpose.

Americans." CNBC, 20 November 2017. www.cnbc.com/2017/11/17/most-patients-

This article reveals the journey of one family's battle with infertility. It describes
the struggled with failed treatments, the financial burden the family encountered, and
how the thought process of those affected are determine by the cost of the treatments
rather that the possible outcomes or physical wellbeing of the patients. It shows how this
family's decision to transfer three embryos resulted in triplets, extensive medical costs
due to the health of the babies and mom, and the unexpected financial burden of now
three babies vs. the one they expected to end up with. The article explains that because of
the lack of medical coverage compounded by the high cost of treatment, decisions are
ultimately influenced by money rather than risks or safety.
Sophie Bearman is associated with CNBC, a new network which primarily covers
U.S. and international financial information, as well as financial and business-themed
documentaries. She has written a number of articles for the company and currently serves
as a producer for CNBC Digital where she produces original videos. Prior to CNBC, she
graduated with honors from Harvard College and worked as a video producer atTheStreet.com
Along with the statistical information that supports my financial argument, there
are a number of really good quotes by respected medical professionals that would lend
my argument credibility. Also provided by the article is a study completed by Mercer that
explains the change in the overall cost of coverage employers pay for fertility treatment to be covered.
