Automation Production Systems and Computer Intergrated Manufacturing 4th edition

Problem 3.12 (using Table from problem 3.11 for operation time and individual machines)

Table 3.11

Machine 1 2 3 4 5 6

Setup time (hr) 4 2 8 3 3 4

Operation time (min) 5.0 3.5 6.2 1.9 4.1 2.5

Problem 3.12

Suppose the part in the previous problem is made in very large quantities on a production line in which an automated work handling system is used to transfer parts between machines. Trasfer time between stations is 15 seconds. Total time required to setup the entire line is 150 hours. Assume that the operation times at the individual machines remains the same as in the previous problem. Determin (A) manufacturing lead time for a part coming off the line, (B) production rate for operation 3, (C) theoretical production rate for the entire production line. (D) How long would it take to produce 10,000 parts after setup has been completed?
