Avery conducted a 3101 study amongst South Carolinian residents; this study looked at the benefits of guided imagery on stress levels. Findings showed that viewing a peaceful video (snow falling on trees in the woods) for 5 minutes was associated with significantly lower stress compared to viewing a 5 minute video of someone taking an examination. Avery could not produce the same results when collecting data amongst participants living in the northeast; the peaceful video condition resulted in the same stress levels as the exam video.
