2. Company X has been in the clothing manufacturing industry for decades. After being on the verge of financial collapse, Company X hires a CEO known for turning failing businesses around. This CEO institutes a number of wide-reaching changes in the company's product line, marketing, and operations. He successfully leads employees to believe in his vision, finds news ways to inspire their creativity, and, amazingly, still manages to keep salaries high. Things seem to be looking optimistic for Company X until a number of high-profile news outlets post articles about the company that go viral. It turns out that at the bottom of the supply chain, factory workers that exclusively make Company X's products in a poorer nation are receiving shockingly low wages and working long hours in miserable conditions. The business practices of the factory are not illegal in the country in which it operates. Furthermore, Company X doesn't directly oversee the factory, but does business with a third party that acts as a middle-man between the factory owner and Company X. Still, Company X is seen as responsible. In the aftermath of this scandal, Company X's CEO resigns. Imagine you are on the board of directors at Company X. Amongst the leadership styles discussed in Week 10 (Leadership), which style of leader would you hire for a new CEO and why (1 point)? Using concepts from the lecture/readings in Week 9 (Business Ethics), what 2 actions would you take to correct the problem described above? After negotiations with Corporation B, Alex accepts a 5 million dollar offer from Corporation B. First, using terms from Week 11 (Negotiation) content, explain one reason why this negotiation outcome may have occurred, assuming that Alex is happy with the negotiation outcome (2 points). 4. Imagine that you are attending a networking event in whatever field you plan to pursue. At the event you see the hiring manager of an organization where you would love to work. From across the room, you observe another job candidate talking to the hiring manager. A minute or so into the conversation, the hiring manager makes a face as if they are annoyed, then walks away from the job candidate. The candidate has clearly done something wrong. A while later, after you see that the hiring manager is in a good mood again, you finally see them standing alone for a moment. Seizing the opportunity, you decide to approach.
