Azwan is a supervisor at a manufacturing company in Shah Alam with a net salary of RM5,650 after deduction of EPF and tax in December 2020. Starting January 2021, due to the impact of Covid-19 on the economy, particularly businesses, the company has decided to deduct 10% of salary from all of their staff including Azwan's. With a 10% pay cut, Azwan is in dilemma and wondering if he can save more money for his retirement since he knows he cannot depend on his EPF savings alone. He has set a goal for 2021; he must have at least 20% extra from his net salary after deducting all his annual expenses. Azwan owns a house where the purchase price was RM200,000 with down payment of 10%, interest rate at 3% and loan period of 30 years. He has 20 years left of loan outstanding. The market value of the house now stood at RM280,000. He lived with his wife who is a homemaker and two children who are both in primary school.
