b) The spent acid from a nitration process is upgraded so it can be reused in the process. In the upgrading process the spent acid is mixed with concentrated nitric acid (:HNO3} and concentrated sulfuric acid (93%H2SO4). The spent acid contains 22% HNO3,58%H2SO4 and the remainder is water. It enters the mixer at a rate of 15kgs. The upgraded acid contains 28%HNO3 and 60%H2SO4.
