BA2504 F2023 Individual Paper: Organizational Intervention Instructions Objective: Design an organizational intervention to identify and solve an OB-related issue within a hypothetical organization of your own creation. Your tasks: 1. Outline the problem Choose an OB topic it can be anything from class (poor communication, too much politics, misperceptions/biases/inequity, job satisfaction, lots of turnover, poor culture/weak culture etc). Pick something you find interesting or important. To identify and provide context to the problem, you should discuss: What is this issue? Why is it important? Based on what youve learned in class and/or in further research, what are the key things we should know about the topic and its impacts on an org? What are the symptoms? Based on what youve learned in class and/or in further research, what signs are you seeing that indicate you should be investigating this topic? o Ex: high turnover due to dissatisfaction? With job? With manager? With pay? 2. Develop an intervention to study the problem Now its time to study the problem choose one (or more) instruments to study the problem. Are you going to use surveys? Interviews? Focus groups? What are the benefits of this/these instrument(s)? what are the potential drawbacks? Develop one or more instruments Based on what you learned in class and in your own research, what questions would you use to diagnose this problem? Build a survey, interview, or focus group (or all three!) to diagnose the problem Explain items/questions included in instrument What are you trying to get at and why? Explain/support your inclusion of these items Secondary data?
hat other info might you use to diagnose the problem (company records, communications, etc)? What is the benefit of using secondary data? What do you hope to learn from it? Suggested Structure: Title page Table of Contents Assumptions o Include a list of all the assumptions you are making about the company. What industry are they in? What are their products? How many employees do they have? What is their structure like (flat/tall/centralized/decentralized)? What is their culture like? Are their managers autocratic or democratic? It is up to you to decide, but you should tell me all the important context that helps tell your story here. Introduction o Provide a bit of info about the situation (company, the issue at hand) o What are your objectives/research questions? Background Info o Here is where you will make the case for your study. Define and discuss important foundational info about your topic, as well as the symptoms you have seen in the organization that have lead you to your investigation Methods o Here is where you will describe how you will investigate your research problem. You will discuss your research instrument (survey, interview, focus group, etc.) and explain why you think it is a good tool for your purposes (what are the pros and cons?). You will also explain why you chose to include the themes or questions you have included in your instrument. Appendix o Here is where you will put your research instrument(s) References o Here is where you will put your reference list Requirements: You will be judged on: the logic/appropriateness of your choices, the depth/support of your explanations, writing - flow/readability Written portion (not including title page, table of contents, references, or appendix should be about 5 pages), 12-point font, double-spaced.
