Back in 1998 one of my friends in Russia was planning a trip to the U.S. to see the Grand Canyon. The ticket on Delta Air Lines from Moscow to Phoenix, AZ cost $1,500. My friend was saving rubles (Russian official currency) to buy a ticket. The exchange rate prior to August, 1998 was 6 rubles per U.S. dollar (RUB 6/USD). She saved enough rubles to exchange it for $1500 (at RUB 6/USD) and was about to buy her ticket when the 1998 Financial Crisis hit Russia. As a result of the crisis in August 1998 the Russian government defaulted on its debt and the Russian Central Bank devalued the ruble. The ruble lost 75% of its value. If the dollar price of the ticket remained the same, how much more money in rubles my friend had to save in order to buy her ticket after August, 1998. (Hint: Show your calculations of the original price of the ticket in rubles (at RUB 6/USD), new exchange rate after ruble's devaluation, new price of the ticket in rubles, and calculate the difference between the original and new price of the ticket)
