Background Sincere Care Services (SCS) was established in Singapore ten years ago by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Danny Tan. SCS's mission is to provide patients with effective medical care from extensively-researched treatments and approaches. Currently, SCS operates one hospital in the city and a chain of specialist clinics across the country. It is publicly listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX). However, it is facing high operational costs and stiff competition from other hospitals One of the ways SCS achieves its mission is through collaborations with renowned foreign hospitals by inviting skilful doctors to perform medical operations here. However, this approach is costly and time-consuming. SCS senior management realises that there is a new Robotic Surgery System (RSS) which will allow doctors to perform medical operations remotely on local patients, through the Internet, and supported by the local medical team. Although there are trials in some developed countries, the system is yet to be tested and approved in Asia. After a detailed analysis, SCS Senior Management decided to embark on implementing a Robotic Surgery System and called it the RSS Project.
Question
SCS will collaborate with Liberty Hospital from the USA by involving Liberty's doctors in the implementation and subsequent use of RSS. The robot will be built by Artzbot Ag from Germany. The RSS Project Team consists of the following members:
1. Yourself: An Operations Manager from SCS, who is appointed as the RSS Project Manager. 2. Jane Ang: A medical doctor from SCS. Her role is to work with Liberty Hospital to define the surgery procedures, and to train the SCS medical team on operating the RSS. 3. Faizah: An IT Engineer from SCS. His role is to design and install the data network to connect the robot to other SCS systems and the Internet. He will also work with Artzbot Ag to install the robot 4. David Jordan: A Senior Cardiac Surgeon from Liberty Hospital who has used a similar system. He will define the operating procedures with Jane Ang and be involved in testing the RSS remotely. 5. Clara Genz: A Technical Specialist from Artzbot Ag. She will customise a robot in Germany and install it at SCS.
From your Project Manager's perspective, differentiate four (4) major and diverse organisations or groups of people (i.e., not an individual person) as stakeholders that will be involved during the RSS Project implementation period. For each stakeholder, define its role in the RSS Project, describe its interest in the project, and propose and explain how you will use one of the five major organisational currencies (Task, Position, Inspiration, Relationship or Personal-related currencies) to influence this stakeholder.
(Hints: Exclude the RSS Project Team in the analysis. Make and state your assumptions where necessary. Not repeat the same currency for different stakeholders.)
