Barry is an accountant who works for the firm of Numero Uno. Barry was approached by Misty Day, the CFO of one of Numero Uno's competitors, Kline and Company. Misty offered Jack a substantial raise to leave his company and work for Kline and Company. When Barry's boss, the CEO of Numero Uno, heard that Barry may leave, he called Barry into his office and said, "If you agree to stay with us for at least five years, I promise that next year you will receive a promotion with a 50% raise, and a 5-year contract." After considering his boss's proposal over a few days, Barry turned down the offer from Kline and Company and stayed with Numero Uno; however, Barry never specifically told his boss of his decision to stay with Numero Uno. Nine months later Barry was dismissed from Numero Uno due to corporate downsizing. Barry wants to know if he can legally enforce his boss's promise.
