Minimal psychological risk might transpire from a participate who is stressed by sitting one-on-one for a one-hour interview meeting. Some participants might disclose things that they later regret sharing, causing mild distress. All research activities place some degree of burden on the participants by asking the participants to share personal information, volunteer time, and assume. However, potential psychological risk will be outweighed by the wealth of knowledge and experience gained from this interview, which could help retail managers implement successful strategies to sustain their business beyond 5 years.

Legal risks might be present if data collection result in a participant's disclosure of violation of laws (by the participant or others). Reports coming out of this study will not have any identifiable information about the participants, instead labels P1 through P5 will be used. The researcher will not use the participant's information or responses for any purpose outside of this research project. The researcher will keep the data secure by storing the information in an encrypted computer in a password-protected folder. The researcher is obligated to keep the data for 5 years, as required by the university and after 5 years, the researcher will destroy all the information collected from this interview.
