1. You are on a team that is about to release some new and/or revised pages to your companys e-commerce website. Three of your teammates tell you after work at a bar that they have built into the new web pages a hidden algorithm that every time a charge is posted to VISA, a few cents is siphoned off and deposited to a secret bank account. They tell you their plan is that everyone on the team will share the money in this bank account. They expect the account to accumulate $2,000 to $5,000 a month, so your share will be 500 to 1,250 a month! They make it clear that you are brought in because you do QA on all the pages and might discover the secret code when examine all the code (code review). But they also make it clear that if you snitch on them and report this, the other three will all say it is YOUR idea. What do you do?
2. You allow your kids to play computer games on your company laptop at home in the evening. [A significant amount of private company data is on this computer.] Then you hear your kids talking at breakfast that one of their friends was at the keyboard of that computer playing too. And you overhear your 16-year-old asking his sibling what this friend could be doing putting a flash drive into the computer while playing the game. You get very alarmed. You casually ask who this was. As soon as you get to work, you check where his mom and Dad work. And sure enough, one of them works for a competitor of your company. What do you do at this point?
3. You have access to a lot of data in the company. You have been talking to another company about a job opening there. When they finally made you a firm offer and indicated a very attractive salary and attractive benefits, you were excited and ready to accept. But then they hinted that they knew you had access to a lot of data about your current company (customer lists, planned products), and that they expect you to copy such data onto a flash drive and bring it with you.
