Purpose of the Study

The purpose of this qualitative exploratory case study is to explore the process of ethical business decision-making in the context of globalization from the perceptions of leaders in the financial services sector in Jamaica, West Indies. The participants will be interviewed based on their experiences in leading teams and making ethical decisions. The data will include documents in the form of policies, which includes, guidelines or principles set by the organization to regulate behavior, decisions, and actions within a specific context and serve as a framework for understanding how certain rules or norms influence behavior or shape interactions.Procedures are step-by-step processes or methods used to accomplish a task or goal. Manuals provide detailed instructions, guidelines, or information about a particular subject or activity. Artifacts will be used to uncover meanings, values, and beliefs embedded within them, as well as to understand the social and cultural contexts in which they are produced and used.Surveys will be used to explore attitudes, opinions, and perceptions. Observations will be used to record behaviors, interactions, and phenomena. Document analysis will involve examining written or recorded materials, such as reports, archival records, to identify patterns, themes, and meaning.

Nature of the Study

This section provides an explanation of the research method and design used for the study. The study is qualitative, exploratory, and case-based. The qualitative approach is appropriate for this study because it allows for an in-depth exploration of the experiences and perceptions of financial services leaders in Jamaica, West Indies, regarding ethical decision-making in the context of globalization (Creswell & Poth, 2018). This approach is particularly useful for exploring complex phenomena not well understood, such as globalization's influence on ethical decision-making (Yin, 2018).

The study's exploratory nature is suitable for investigating a topic not sufficiently explored in the existing literature. The exploratory approach allows the researcher to delve into the problem and understand it more fully, which is necessary given the lack of understanding about how leaders in the financial services sector navigate ethical decision-making in a globalized business environment (Saunders, Lewis, & Thornhill, 2019).

The case study design is appropriate for this study because it allows for an in-depth investigation of a specific 'case' or 'cases' within its real-world context (Yin, 2018). In this study, the 'case' is the financial services sector in Jamaica, West Indies. The case study design will enable the researcher to explore the unique experiences and perceptions of leaders in this sector, providing valuable insights into the process of ethical decision-making in the context of globalization.

Data will be collected primarily through in-depth interviews with financial services leaders. This method is suitable for gaining a deep understanding of the participants' experiences and perceptions (Brinkmann, 2016). The data will be supplemented by an analysis of relevant organizational documents such as policies and procedures, which will provide additional context and insights into the ethical decision-making process in these organizations.

Information will be categorized according to identifiers instead of using charts and graphs. Qualitative inquiry uses broad suppositions to interpret participants' perceptions through inductive reasoning (Creswell and Poth, 2018). Researchers conducting qualitative studies use subjects and locations to understand an instance or phenomenon and the main objective of a qualitative method of research (Creswell,2020) is to provide insights and explore descriptive accounts into the settings of a problem to understand the similarities and differences in various events.

The characteristics of the qualitative method are that research is subjective, interactive, value and biased laden, in a personal voice, inductive, unstructured, reliable through verification, and used to develop a theory (Serrat,2023). The method of research is informed by the research question and once the research issue has been recognized, the appropriate methodology is chosen for the solution. Qualitative research methods are a practical, comprehensive guide to the collection and presentation of qualitative data (Kortunov,2020). Qualitative research centers on examining the point through cultural phenomena, human behavior, and belief framework. This kind of research utilizes interviews, and open-ended questions to gain insight into individuals' contemplations and beliefs surrounding certain beliefs and practices. Qualitative studies address the social aspect of research (Creswell 2020). A rich narrative from participant interviews is generated and then analyzed in qualitative research to answer the research question. Questions will be used to uncover the problem and address it comprehensively (Polit et al.,2014). This research focuses on understanding a research query as a humanistic or idealistic approach and is used to understand people's beliefs, experiences, attitudes, behavior, and interactions. The proposed research topic is ethical decision-making, and I believe the research method is most appropriate. Qualitative research is used to address the social problem by gaining an understanding of participants' opinions, perceptions, and feelings, or by reviewing documents. Qualitative data are narrative data collected using approaches such as interviews, questionnaires, focus groups, observations, or archival documents. The researcher is typically very involved with the participants during the research and sampling type is usually purposeful, and the sample size is typically small.

The qualitative research method is appropriate for the study as it will be used to explore the processes that exist within the organizational structure and provide insight into how these processes came about (Bluhm et al., 2011). The qualitative research method will be able to describe, interpret and explain data, and is an appropriate way to explore leaders in the financial services sector's responses to ethical decision-making. The qualitative research method is appropriate because the frequency of events will be examined and re-examined, and the researcher will develop generalizable findings and measure data. Qualitative research is used to generate, develop or test management theories (Myers, 2019). Qualitative studies involve research in specific social, institutional, and environmental real-life circumstances (Yin, 2011).

Case study as a research technique may be justified using how or why questions, in situations where the researcher has little control, or in which the focus is on current rather than historical material. Case studies take a holistic approach to qualitative research. They can be descriptive, exploratory, or explanatory (Yin, 2009), and are seen as one of the more versatile qualitative methodologies. Case study is an empirical inquiry that investigates a contemporary phenomenon within its real-life context (Yin, 2014). Case study researchers are developers of in-depth analysis of a case, often activity or process bounded by time (Creswell and Creswell, 2018). The proposed research title for the research is ethical decision making, and believe this approach was the most suitable for the study. In design research, case studies are used to investigate a phenomenon and validate a method. The case study approach could be regarded as an appropriate method for research design (Yin, 2009), given its nature and objectives. It is possible to challenge a case study's validity as a research approach by asking how or why questions, or by focusing on contemporary information rather than historical information in situations where the researcher has limited influence. Given the nature and objective of design research, the case study approach may be deemed a good method for conducting it. Design researchers are confronted with doubts concerning the validity of case studies and the results they obtain from employing them. This paper provides a brief review of the case study approach, compares it to other qualitative research methods and examines the advantages and disadvantages of employing the method in design research. The requirements for design research are drawn from the typical characteristics of the research. Four common research strategies are examined in terms of their suitability for the objectives. According to the results of a preliminary benchmark study, the case study approach is a good way for conducting design research.

Case studies can be used to explain, describe, and explore events (Yin, 2014) and can help to clarify and explain the causal link arising from inconsistent decision making. The case study will allow the researcher to explore small samples in a multifaceted manner (Pable 2013). The case study design aligns and is appropriate with the definition of a case study in capturing managers' and leaders' experiences through the research question, the challenges faced, and the purpose of the study in documenting the issues proposed by the study.

The exploratory case study design was selected as the research design because the question focuses on uncovering things happening within the organization (Yin, 2014). An exploratory case study explores circumstances where no single set of outcomes substantiate the study's design (Yin, 2003). Case study will be used to help to clarify and explain the causal link. The case study will be used to explore a smaller sample population and is seen as a practical approach to understanding the factors influencing ethical behavior (Pable, 2013). Case study is appropriate for focusing on a specific organizational issue. The current study will focus on ethical decision-making within the financial services sector and analyze the context and processes affecting leadership behavior.
